Overview

Why patients choose this test.

Roughly 90% of Americans are deficient in at least one essential nutrient — and most never know, because standard blood tests measure what's circulating in serum rather than what your cells are actually using. The Micronutrient Test measures functional, cellular-level status of 46 vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, amino acids, and metabolites.

Deficiencies are sneaky: low Vitamin D reads as fatigue and low mood, suboptimal B12 mimics anxiety and brain fog, low CoQ10 caps aerobic capacity, and marginal magnesium drives cramps, poor sleep, and higher blood pressure. None are visible until you measure them properly — and once you do, the fix is often simple.

What is the test

What it measures.

A blood test measuring functional cellular levels of 46 markers — what your cells use, not just what's floating in your blood:

  • Vitamins — A, B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B5 (pantothenate), B6, B12, biotin, folate, C, D3, D 25-OH, E, K1, K2
  • Minerals — sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, zinc, copper, selenium, manganese, chromium
  • Antioxidants — CoQ10, glutathione, alpha-lipoic acid, cysteine
  • Amino acids — including those involved in detoxification and neurotransmitter production
  • Metabolites — including markers of B-vitamin function and energy metabolism
Why get it

Who it's for.

Get the Micronutrient Test if you want to know what you're actually deficient in rather than what you assume. It's especially valuable if:

  • You're tired despite sleeping enough (often B12, iron, magnesium, or CoQ10)
  • You get muscle cramps, restless legs, or trouble falling asleep (often magnesium)
  • You get sick often or recover slowly (often Vitamin D, zinc, Vitamin C)
  • You take a daily multivitamin but have no idea if it's working
  • You follow a restricted diet — vegan, vegetarian, keto, low-FODMAP, carnivore
  • You train hard and want to optimize recovery
  • You're over 40 and want to address age-related absorption changes
  • You take medications (PPIs, metformin, statins) that deplete specific nutrients
What to expect

From booking to results.

  • Booking — reserve online and our team confirms your appointment.
  • At your appointment — a 10–15 minute blood draw at our Morristown or Colts Neck, NJ location, or via mobile draw within our service areas.
  • Results — typically available within 10–14 business days as a color-coded report showing which nutrients are deficient, borderline, or optimal at the cellular level.
  • Consultation — a True Heal Wellness provider builds a personalized supplementation protocol: which nutrients, at what doses, in which forms (for example, methylated B vitamins for MTHFR variants), and how to address the absorption issues behind any deficiencies.

Preparation: an 8-hour fast is recommended for the most accurate readings; continue your normal supplementation unless your provider advises otherwise.

FAQ

Micronutrient Test, answered.

How is this different from a regular vitamin blood test?+
Standard serum tests measure what's circulating in your blood at the moment of the draw. Functional micronutrient testing measures what your cells are actually using — so you can have “normal” serum levels and still be functionally deficient at the cellular level.
How many micronutrients does the test measure?+
46 markers spanning vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, amino acids, and metabolic indicators of B-vitamin function.
Should I stop my supplements before the test?+
Generally no — most people want to know how their current regimen is working. If you want a true unsupplemented baseline, pause supplements for 2 weeks before testing.
Why do so many people show deficiencies even on a clean diet?+
Soil depletion, food processing, gut absorption issues, chronic stress, medication interactions, and genetic variants like MTHFR all reduce how much nutrient value you extract from food. Even excellent diets often fall short of optimal cellular levels.
How long does it take to correct a deficiency?+
It depends on the nutrient. Water-soluble vitamins (B-complex, C) can normalize within weeks; fat-soluble vitamins (D, K, A, E), iron, and tissue-stored minerals (magnesium, zinc) typically take 3–6 months of targeted supplementation.
Do I need to fast for the Micronutrient Test?+
An 8-hour fast is recommended for the most accurate readings, particularly for lipid-bound nutrients and fat-soluble vitamins.
